Islander isn’t a brand you see at your local jeweller or department store. They’re a US-based direct-to-consumer operation that’s built a devoted following by offering well-specced dive watches at prices the retail world can’t match. The Northport ISL-155 is one of their flagships — and in Seafoam Green, it’s something else entirely.
Let’s get to the obvious thing first: the seafoam green ripple dial is stunning. The texture catches light in a way that flat dials simply can’t, and the colour itself occupies an interesting space — not quite teal, not quite mint, with a warmth that shifts depending on what it’s next to. In sunlight it glows. Under indoor lighting it settles into something more muted and sophisticated.
This is the dial that makes people ask what you’re wearing. At under $500, that’s a remarkable thing.
The ISL-155 doesn’t ask you to trade substance for style. The hi-beat automatic movement delivers a noticeably smooth seconds sweep — the kind of thing you notice if you’ve spent time with budget watches running at 21,600 bph or lower. Sapphire crystal with AR coating keeps legibility high, and the screw-down crown and 200m water resistance mean this is a genuine tool watch, not just a looker.
The BGW9 lume is excellent — bright, long-lasting, and appropriately applied on both the dial and bezel.
The Northport ISL-155 in Seafoam Green is a summer watch in the best sense: it has personality, it works near the water, and it’s going to generate conversations. If you want something that disappears on the wrist and suits every occasion, look elsewhere. But if you’re looking for a statement dive watch that’s genuinely well-built and won’t require a second mortgage, Islander has nailed it here.
The direct-to-consumer model keeps the price honest. At $429, you’re getting specs and dial quality that regularly appear on watches costing $700 or more at retail. That equation is hard to argue with.
Verdict
The ISL-155 Seafoam Green is the kind of watch that makes people stop you on the street. The ripple dial texture and colour combination is genuinely unlike anything else under $500, and Islander backs it up with a capable hi-beat movement and proper dive specs. It's not a subtle watch — the colour demands attention — which means it's not for everyone. But if you want something that looks like it costs twice as much and you're willing to embrace the personality, this is an easy recommendation. Islander continues to punch above its weight, and the Northport is one of their best.
